Rumors and Backstabbing Common in Workplace
Nowadays we usually see lot of people spreading rumors and usually always try to backstab their colleagues in workplace. Some of them usually do that to show and make others feel about their power so that no one could even think of making them go down on their as well as others knee, which we should always do to them.
Some people, or shall I say, almost all of them who do this type of act knows that it would make the work performance of almost everyone go down, but still they do that because they have the habit of doing this and as such they don’t even care what others would feel or think or even do to them for this act. It not only damages people work performance but also put lot of mental stress to them. It doesn’t matter whether the workplace is small or big, we always used to see few such people almost everywhere who always forcefully try to put others under their knees. However, somewhere we also see few of them trying to do this act on their heads or even to their boss.
Rumors are unjust, leaving us with barely a chance to fight back. This is usually because; often times come when someone who doesn’t like to take this sort of acts from their colleagues also tries to put pressure on them. It is hard to deal with such type of issues because sometimes the story usually gets altered as it is being passed from one person to another, making it more difficult for almost all of us to find the original source of the fabrication.
But we can take precautions. Try to ignore the rumors, the best thing a person can do. Sometimes, few people also do such acts just to make fun of others. If it is such, the heads should always try to stop it when they see or feel that it is going out of their hands. However, if the heads are also such type of people, then it is the task of others to ask their boss to look after the case or try to solve themselves without showing any emotion to anyone.
Try to be civil. If you are able to find out who started the rumor, talk to the person and try to explain your side and ask for his or her motive in making such statements. Do this in private, and always try to remain composed and calm. This will send a signal that you are not afraid to confront him or her and that you may not be as forgiving the next time if he or she tries to do that.
Always try to have friends in your workplace. You may always be the subject of intrigues if you have no allies. The backstabbers will be dissuaded from attacking you if they know you have friends who will fight for you. Always try to be helpful and nice. You will not be the object of intrigues, if everybody knows you are a kind person. People always hate to see malicious attacks made on those they like.
Prove them wrong. If your officemates are trying to attack you for being the boss’ pet, show them that you deserve your promotion as because you worked hard as well as know much more than others. Focus on your work, and always do your best.
Inform your superior. Malicious intrigues may affect your performance. Inform your boss and ask for his or her help. Give your side of the issue, because keeping silent may lead him or her to think you are at fault. Try to present evidence if you think it would help you. If you believe that the information circulated is baseless or untrue, always try to provide necessary proof which will protect you from such acts. The best form of defense is to back up your claims with hard evidence.
Always try to tell those who have the habit to try such acts on others, not to do that. If you see anyone who is also having hands to help them, try to tell them not to help those persons who do such acts. If still, they don’t agree with you, try to boycott all of them and also try to convince others not to talk with them because not only they are damaging people’s reputation but also trying to damage their future as well as also trying to damage the reputation of the workplace. Our best strategy is to plan a response proportionate to the attack; choosing our reaction carefully which will help us to win the war against this social virus.
